Get ready to jump…
Well today starts a section of story that we’ve been building to since the beginning. I originally thought about different ways to chop up the pieces for the “strips” that have been running thus far but at the end of the day I decided to just post the whole two page spread. So, for the next little bit that’s what’s going up (this will make a ton more sense once you start seeing the next couple of spreads). Anyway, here’s today’s page:
(Normally I’d insert a small version of the page here but for whatever reason WordPress is fighting me this morning… so here’s a link instead and I’ll try to get the image thing working: read the page here!)
I haven’t really talked too much about the art or story lately and that’s because it was just following along with what I’ve been doing since THE JUMPER started. But now things are going to start evolving as the next couple of pages go up and I’m sure that I’ll have some thoughts for the people that are into that sort of behind-the-scenes type thinking. Sometimes I wonder if those sort of details ruin things, but I really enjoy reading creator’s thoughts, so I’m going to blather on and post some of my own. For this spread I was trying to find a way to separate the “normal” story from what follows when Michael “jumps”. After kicking the idea around I decided on the page tear and I hope that I’ve pulled it off effectively. I think if you read the story (pages) continuously it’s a probably got a better flow, and it will definitely make more sense when you see the next couple of pages. With that in mind, come back and re-read this section and maybe the effect will be more apparent.
I’m really curious about how these pages will be received and what people actually think of the story. So with that in mind, let me know! Posting full spreads will really move the story along, so get ready…

Super busy! EEK!!!
As always, I find that once I get back into the groove with all things On the Verge I really get swamped. But last week I managed to finish off the final touches on THE JUMPER story that I had been putting off for far too long. I also got back to drawing at lunchtime! It’s funny how much I actually missed it. But with THE JUMPER story finally 100% completed I can now turn my attention to the next chapter of work that needs to be done.
Has anyone ever mentioned how much time lettering actually takes? I guess my problem is that I’ve started to add complexity to the pages through lettering and it’s taking more and more time. Anyway, I’m finally finished lettering the next huge chunk of story which is cool because it means that the pages are essentially “done” as far as the overall design goes (and that also means that the rough pencils that I’ve put together are pretty much final too!). The challenge for the next couple of months is going to be turning out finished artwork for pages which I really haven’t done since the end of October. It’s somewhat daunting to see that many roughed out pages that now need to be fully drawn and inked!
With that in mind, I think I should probably finish up some last edits and who can argue with that?
A look back at 2012 (and a look forwards at 2013)
I know we’re halfway through January at this point and I did intend to get this posted last week when it was the first week back after the holiday break, but that just didn’t happen. I actually had a first draft written up in December that just didn’t quite say what I wanted it too. Anyway, after a bit of a re-think, here’s a look back at 2012.
So how did it go?
To be honest, 2012 was a blur – but an incredibly productive blur. I started this project in the fall of 2010 so I kind of discount those first couple of months since I was just figuring things out. 2011 was a good start to things as I figured out how to do work on a semi-regular basis and got to work on a bunch of different storylines and redesigned my website way too many times. So 2011 basically laid the groundwork for what was to come in 2012. It turns out that last year was all about carrying the momentum of 2011 forward and actually getting stuff done – and boy did I manage to do that! Here’s a glimpse of just what I accomplished: Continue reading
How are you doing?
Are you still with me? Stay tuned for next week when things start to get interesting. I promise.*
*I feel like I’ve been plugging what’s coming for a while now, so thank god it arrives next week. Can you tell that I’m excited about it? I sure hope it was worth the wait.

Mid January update
So right now, I’m about waist deep in three different stories and it’s making me a little crazy trying to keep things straight. Hopefully I’ll completely wrap up THE JUMPER this week and then it’s just a matter of posting pages. Then it’s only two and that’s not so bad, right? What am I working on?
THE JUMPER. Basically the art for these pages has been done since the summer but I let the final bits of lettering and stuff sit on the shelf until now when I realize that these actually need to be finished off because they have to be posted. Anyway, as you’ll see, the lettering is a little bit more intricate than normal. I’m almost done with this one and it should be good to go by the end of the week.
THE INTERVIEW. This story is one of those ones where I keep doing pages in batches. The problem with that is, when the batch of pages runs out I’ve got to scramble to do another batch – which is where I’m at now. There is an overall plot to this one that I’m following along, but maybe I just need to sit down and finish all the pages off and relieve some stress. Except that I really want and need to work on…
THE MAIN ON THE VERGE STORYLINE. Hey, remember this one? Yeah, I haven’t forgotten about it, I’ve just been distracted by all the other stories that I decided I wanted to tell. Anyway, I have been plugging away on story and new art and I’ve made quite a bit of progress. I finished off six pages of pencils over the weekend and I’ve only got two left to finish off the next section. Then it’s on to inking and beyond which I’m hoping to get going on soon. I’m really excited to get back to the main story and I hope the new pages will definitely be worth the wait.
Beyond that, I think I should get back to work. Check it tomorrow for a post looking back at last year and then on Thursday for the next installment of THE INTERVIEW!
First post for 2013!
And it almost didn’t happen (damn WordPress and your updates!). But yeah, back to the main point of the continuing saga of THE JUMPER… So we’re getting close to things really heating up in the story and hopefully getting interesting. Here’s today’s strip:
I hope everyone had a good holiday break. I survived a severe cold the week before Christmas that really shut things down but I was feeling much better for my couple of weeks off and I’m ready to get back to work on things. Which I actually have been doing. I’m about knee deep in finalizing some colouring and lettering for the next batch of pages. They’re a little more intricate than my normal comic book page so it’s taking a bit of time but I hope that the end result will be worth it.
Anyway, I don’t have too much more to update since I really shut everything down for the past couple of weeks. Be sure to check back in for the other new posts this week and hopefully many more in the year ahead.
