Always interested in the process of making images and drawing, I am a graphic designer, illustrator and artist whose work ranges from the whimsical, to the serious, to the surreal.

After graduating from Sheridan College’s Illustration Program, I worked for a year as the head designer for the retail and commercial design firm Prescription for Retail. I followed this with a stint of freelance work before landing at The Co-operators in-house design agency. I am currently still with The Co-operators where work as a Senior Graphic Designer and also run a successful freelance graphic design and illustration business for a variety of clients.

I work with clients in both small businesses and large corporations and have been directly involved in client consultation, branding, brand development and management, as well as creative and art direction. This has resulted in a variety of rich, powerful graphics that are beautifully rendered for projects such as custom logos, print and digital advertising, posters, packaging, editorial design, apparel, signage, environmental design and websites.

I have also been working as an indie comic creator since 2010 and have completed and published several short stories and I am currently working on an original graphic novel called ON THE VERGE: THE ARROW OF TIME (which I publish as a weekly webcomic). And to keep me extra busy, I am currently working on ANDREW JACKSON IN SPACE with writer Brian Visaggio. Brian and I have also worked together on THE SISTERS, a short horror story.

I was lucky enough to have my featured in IN-HOUSE DESIGN IN PRACTICE: real-world solutions for graphic designers. Shown below are four of the brand ads that I co-art directed and designed for The Co-operators). The book’s premise is to establish what an in-house designer does.

“Using the simplest definition, an in-house designer is a professional creative who produces graphic design for, and is an employee of, an organization whose main business in usually not design related … who demonstrates, through words and actions, that it understands how design truly benefits business.”

The book also includes work from a few other companies that use in-house design departments, including: Fossil, Virgin Atlantic, Yahoo, Whirlpool, Mutual of Omaha and Rand McNally.

The Co-operators 2009 Sustainability Report which I art directed and designed was featured in the CSR Trends 2010 from PWC which was their 4th comprehensive survey of corporate social responsibility report trends, benchmarks and best practices. Specifically, Co-operators Sustainability Report was highlighted in the report because of its cover and overall message which was carried throughout the Report from the front to the back cover.

The Co-operators combines an exclamation point with the simple statement – Making An Impact – to draw attention to a youth-based initiative that creates solutions for a variety of sustainability challenges, many depicted in the collage within the exclamation point. It also summarizes the company’s determination to make a difference.

  1. The visual texture of the cover is carried throughout the report to feature case studies.
  2. The Co-operators invites conversation on the back cover with a thought provoking call to action – How are you making an impact? – punctuated with a question mark that ties it thematically to the cover.
