DC’s Trinity

Since Batman v. Superman is being released today, I figured it was as good a time as any to post my versions of DC’s Trinity – Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman.

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, last fall I was asked to create and contribute pinups for Batman and Wonder Woman for a week long celebration of each. So over the past couple of weeks, I decided to finish out the Trinity and draw a Superman. There’s a lot more behind the scenes shots in yesterday’s post if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

The Wonder Woman pinup was originally in colour but since the other two aren’t coloured, I decided to take the colour out (easy enough to do) and add in some ink washes so that it completed the set.

I had a lot of fun working on these. One of the things that I’ve noticed that my favourite artists do is create their own worlds for their drawings to exist in and that’s really been my approach in trying to figure all of these pinups and commissions out. What type of world do these characters live in? How would I draw that? This type of thinking really helped simplify my approach and I think allowed me to capture all three characters in pretty interesting ways. Now I just need a reason to draw them again!

Anyway, I’ll be seeing the new movie tonight. Who do you think is going to win?
